2021.10.17 00:05 Stripesthetiger Sometimes I fantasize about the domesticated life.
White picket fence. Lovely neighbors. Two kids. Me, a housewife working from home. My wife would come home from work and I would make them a delicious meal every single day, save for the last day of each month. After thirty days of homemade meals, on the thirty-first, I just hand her a hotpocket on a fancy plate. She’s like “what is this” and I’m like “dinner. I slaved over a hot microwave for this— enjoy.”

2021.10.17 00:05 JustASimpleMoomin Can an ear infection lead to total hearing loss?
Hi! I'm a generally healthy 24 year old man, with no previous ear problems, and no other issues in the last few months, not even a cold.
Last Sunday I noticed my left ear was somewhat muffled - similar to when you get out of a swimming pool, or take-off on an aeroplane - only it wasn't going away, even when holding my nose and blowing. I thought it might have been caused by poking a q-tip or finger in too far - it wasn't an instant response but I think I had cleaned my ears the day before. It seemed to go away over the next couple of days, before returning on Wednesday. It gradually got worse and worse, and started to be painful too, most notably the ear itself but also the whole left side of my face, especially when opening my mouth wide or chewing. Holding my nose and blowing provided some partial relief for a few seconds, was much more painful than it usually is, and resulted in a bubbling or popping sensation. I've since stopped attempting this as I read that blowing your nose too hard could cause further irritation.
On Friday I rang a doctor who suggested it was an ear infection and prescribed me some antibiotics (co-amoxiclav) and a spray for the ear (otomize), both to be taken thrice daily, and arranged an appointment for Monday afternoon. So far they've don't seem to have had any effect.
More concerningly, my right ear then started to become blocked too, progressing in a similar manner to how the left ear did. At present I'd say that the left ear has 100% hearing loss, and the right ear 80-90% (and getting worse). The right ear is currently also "popping" when opening my mouth wide, which unblocks it a small amount, before quickly returning to its former state. I can't get back in touch with the doctor as it's the weekend.
The pain is pretty acute - there's often a pulsating sensation in each ear - but is generally manageable with painkillers; I'm more concerned about the hearing loss. Basically, I want to know if a) this does indeed sound like a standard ear infection, and b) it's possible for an ear infection to progress in this way and ultiamtely result in temporary total hearing loss, or whether I need to be concerned. At present I'm expecting to wake up tomorrow totally deaf.
Thanks for reading!

2021.10.17 00:05 GooeyFourskin Would it hurt Supercell to add a volume setting?
It’s nice to be able to disable sound but it kinda sucks when you’re listening to music with the sound effects on and the game completely drowns out the music. For a game that’s almost a decade old you’d think they would have implemented this primitive setting

2021.10.17 00:05 EuqirnehBR97 [DISCUSSION] What’s going on with Metroid Dread’s difficulty?
Hey, guys! I’m new here and I know this has been discussed a lot around Reddit (and all over internet), and I’m REALLY not judging anyone, I’m just trying to understand what’s happening…
So, for context, I’m pretty new to the series, I found out Samus existed in Super Smash Bros for the N64, but never played a single Metroid game before deciding to play Super Metroid on my Switch last month to prepare for Metroid Dread. I’m a pretty average gamer (eg, never finished Returnal, Bloodborne or even Hollow Knight) and I admit I had to rely on a guide to make it through Super Metroid, and I began my Dread playthrough prepared for the worse.
Fastforward to Dread’s release and I was instantly addicted - the gameplay is so fluid and fun and intuitive that not once have I felt bad about dying - it just felt like a screw up on my part, and not that the game was too punishing. I managed to complete the game in around 7h without any kind of guides (not even close to 100% though) and dying only to EMMIs and Bosses, and, since I was trying to avoid any spoilers, I hadn’t read anything about Dread’s difficulty polemic before, and was really impressed when I saw so many people complaining… It felt like hate more than anything else…
Since most of you are way better than me and know the series for a long time, what do you guys think? Is it really too difficult and I was just lucky?
