2021.12.07 21:06 tlz81389 Was just gifted a C7800... Thoughts?
So I've had the Spectrum 400/20 plan since the beginning of this year. I was using one of their newer modems and it seems to work fine but I wanted to get a Motorola just to have the best equipment possible so two weeks ago i bought an mb8611. Just in case the spectrum modem was limiting speeds or anything for gaming. My router is a netgear R8500. The two work pretty well together but the modem was pricey. My gaming experience goes to shit if I have the QoS disabled on the R8500.
So, my GF's Dad overheard i was getting a modem and decided to gift me a C7800 that he had gotten a while back and never used. I think Xfinity said it wouldn't work with his plan for some reason or something and he had forgotten about it.
I was planning to call spectrum tomorrow night to get it activated and see how it is, it's a few years newer than the R8500 so i figured it might be an improvement. But, after a quick search on this forum it seems like they have a lot of lemons/issues for this model. It would be nice to get the money back from the MB8611 but I dont want to do that at the expense of having internet troubles.

2021.12.07 21:06 No_Type_4488 Once again searching for friends
So I posted here earlier in the year and met some cool people but due to life craziness, major surgery, and general social anxiety have been terrible at keeping in touch with people. If you were one of the people we met at the park you are all great it’s just been so long since I’ve reached out that it feels awkward to just say hello. If you want to say hi though that’s cool. I’m a stay at home dad and don’t drive. So I’m super cool. Looking for friends into geek/nerd things. Primarily play ps4 but have a switch, Xbox one, and PC but it’s probably not going to run newer games. As far as video games go I play RPGs, strategy, survival, and shooters mostly. If you’re playing online and winning is important to you then you don’t want me on your team. I’d like to think I’m solidly mediocre at most games. If anyone’s watching Wheel of Time and wants to discuss differences between the books and the show or how Brandon Sanderson is a better writer then Robert Jordan that would be fun. I read lots of sci-fi and fantasy books, occasionally I’ll read some comics. Tabletop RPGs and boardgames is another interest that it would be great to find friends that share. I’ve been to Red Raccoon a couple times but I’m on the fence about adventure league. I played pathfinder society for awhile and gaming with new people each session isn’t my preference. Having the same people with backstories incorporated and more of a focus on role play is more my play style. Thanks for reading and send me a message if you want. Happy holidays!

2021.12.07 21:06 CDispRekt If I have a hernia (find out in 3 days maybe), what food WONT come back up constantly in bits and pieces?
For awhile oatmeal was fine, but then started coming up in flakes. Anything with pulp is an absolute no go. Coconut and greek yogurt seems to work somewhat but I can't live off those unfortunately, and my body really wants to fight anything with whey in it. What are some go to foods for folks hurtin from this? It feels like my LES is just constantly open all the time and even moving it stuff can slosh up it's so gross. Mashed potatos maybe? I'm at a loss for ideas
Also sorry mods if I got the flair wrong

2021.12.07 21:06 GlassSandwich9315 4X07 Theories
I know I'm a little late to the party, but I just watched Someplace Far Away From All This Violence and I have some theories. I agree with some other commenters I've seen on this subreddit and my first thought at Alaric saying that it was a matter of what's inside of them when talking about the guns named Stefan and Damon was that it was hinting that the only way to stop Hope was with the immortality cure. But, I can't imagine the writers having anyone take it from Damon or Elana, as they're suppose to live long and happy lives, so the Super Squad would need to make a new cure from scratch. This made me think that maybe the way the tree can kill the tribrid is not my staking Hope with its wood, but by it being a key ingredient in the immortality cure.
Another theory I had was, maybe Lizzie, Josie, and the Gemini Coven are descendants of the witch that helped create Malivore. Maybe there were repercussions to the original triad casting the spell, causing them to all be cursed in some way and pass that curse on to their descendants. I can just see the writers linking the quest for breaking the merge with Hope's journey. This would be a reason for Triad reaching out to Lizzie and recruit her into helping them take down Hope.

2021.12.07 21:06 teeedubb Running a script on shutdown that needs wifi
I'm having trouble getting a script to run on shutdown that requires network connectivity. Its really inconsistent - sometimes it works, other times it doesn't. I've researched the topic and I think I have the right systemd service to accomplish the task and I have tried different variations, I cant get it to work reliably. For context, I'm running a rpi connected via wifi.
Current systemd script: [Unit] Description=delayed power off for smart power board After=network-online.target Wants=network-online.target
Script I want to run #!/bin/bash
[Service] ExecStop=/home/pi/.scripts/power-board-5-min-off.sh Type=oneshot RemainAfterExit=yes [Install] WantedBy=multi-user.target
The script runs reliably when run manually so I know that's not the issue.
2021.12.07 21:06 pen_ultimately [M4F] A roleplay prompt dreams are made of!
The sleep study lab was supposed to be the easiest credit of Kyle McKinnon's fall semester. When he spotted the row of tearaway sheets printed on light blue paper promising a single credit for just three hours a week spent monitoring participants' brain waves during dream activity practically covered by campus rideshare offers and a flyer advertising a residence hall-wide game of kickball, Kyle couldn't pocket the lab TA's phone extension fast enough. Although he was only a sophomore, a credit that wasn't part of an already daunting course load might make the difference of whether he'd get to graduate early enough, and, pretty literally, the student-athlete with short, sandy locks and freckled cheeks would get to sleepwalk his way to an easy A.
Of course, the lab wasn't the most ideal place to catch a nap. The cot Kyle was assigned had a rigid frame and austere mattress, and even when he tried to get comfortable, resting his arms beneath the scratchy cotton pillowcase, he couldn't help but peek out to a windowed wall of stern, spectacled glances from a small platoon of biology students scribbling into legal pads.
Tick tick, tick-tock, tick tick tick.
And, then, of course, there was that dumb clock. The one mounted on the wall just above the bedposts, the one that was wound too loudly and rang in his ears when he closed his eyes and try to will his stressed student brain to relax for an hour, just an hour, that's it.
Tick, tock tock tock tock tock tock tock.
Kyle's eyes flickered open, wide awake now in a darkened laboratory: The fluorescents had been shut off, and if there was anyone on the research side of the shared wall, they were obscured in darkness. A wincing glance at the clock raised a bubbling sense of panic into his chest: Somehow, he'd been allowed to oversleep, to the point where his public speaking course was in five minutes. Kyle sprang to his feet, reaching under the cot for his backpack, when a voice froze him in place. It was strangely familiar, although the sophomore couldn't place its timbre.
"It's not there. At least, not here."
A pause, from both of them.
Rolling his eyes to no one's amusement but his own, Kyle looked back up at the clock with a kind of unsteady dizziness. This time, though, when he turned back around, the cold linoleum of the lab's floors had been replaced by the smooth wooden backstage boards of the performing arts building. His gaze broadened at the sight of classmates milling around, some in nonsensical costumes: Dreamlike, but also par for the course when it came to theater majors.
"They're doing more than just measuring your brain activity when you're dreaming, you know. But that's for you to figure out. Well, you and someone else. But you'll find her soon, I'd imagine."
Kyle bit his lower lip to keep his head from swimming over this sudden shift of venue, not to mention the voice he was positive only he could hear. There's a moment where he considered willing himself to wake up, but, no, not yet. There was apparently someone he had to find. That felt like it meant something. He folded his arms over his chest, jolting out of his thoughtfulness when he felt his forearms touch bare skin.
"Oh, and you're apparently in one of those in-class-in-your-underwear dreams, so I'd make your rendezvous quick."
Kyle's knees locked as he pressed his back up against the fluttering curtain of the theater's stage, trying to stand still and not draw attention to himself. If this mystery "her" was another sleep study participant, well, he could only hope her own lucid dreams had brought her to this particular wing of campus.
Hello! I'm a 27-year-old writer who just wrapped up a probably-too-long introduction to a collaborative story idea I've been dying to share! Basically, the TL;DR premise is that two college students participating in a sleep lab study end up in each other's dreams, and end up investigating the study they're part of, which isn't all it seems to be on the surface. All while getting to know each other (and, realistically) developing a mutual attraction both in their dreamscapes and real life! My goal with this prompt is basically to blend a sci-fi mystery with a slice-of-life rom-com, which might be a big ask, but hopefully I find a couple of partners willing to dive into this story together! Please be at least 20 years old, willing and eager to write long, detailed posts, and, if you're interested, please send me a snapshot of your character finding herself in a dream! Just to see how our writing styles click.

2021.12.07 21:06 0falls6x3 What type of follow up research can be done when you have RNA and DNA-seq. data?
I have a writing prompt where I have to propose a follow up experiment. The data I hypothetically have is 1. RNA-seq data from cells under two conditions and one control over a few time points, 2. DNA-seq data from evolving cells under two conditions and the control for X amount of generations.
I know RNA would tell me down/up regulated genes in a cell and their level of expression. DNA would show me changes in the nucleic sequences. But I am having a hard time connecting these two results to design an experiment.
My ideas so far are: 1. study a subset of mutations of interest as revealed by DNA and RNA-seq to identify pathways related to adaptation, or 2. compare these DNA and RNA results with clinical isolates so determine how accurate the lab study was.
